Volunteer Opportunities

Are you a teen interested in volunteering? 

Looking to get involved at LPL? Our next Teen Volunteers meetup will be held on Saturday, Oct 8 at 1 p.m. Learn about volunteer opportunities and how to sign-up. This event is for current/future teen volunteers only. 

Liverpool Public Library Volunteers

Liverpool Public Library values volunteers and recognizes their role in helping the library meet its mission: to connect our community, engage people and inspire discovery, learning and growth.

Volunteers will be placed according to their talents, abilities, and knowledge in relationship to the tasks and needs of the Library (see job descriptions below). If you are interested in volunteering, please download the Volunteer Application, fill it out and return it to our volunteer coordinator. Not all applicants will be accepted. 

Volunteers are:

  • Individuals seeking to build a lasting connection with LPL and the community.
  • Able to independently follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Reliable and committed.
  • Pleased to work in a team environment under the supervision of library staff.
  • Prepared to volunteer in Liverpool, New York, USA
  • Age: 14 and over.

REQUIREMENTS: If you see yourself as described above, please submit a Volunteer Application. If selected, you will be contacted for an interview. Not all applicants will be accommodated. 

 

Liverpool High School Government Student Teen Volunteers

Liverpool Public Library partners with the Liverpool Central School District to provide high school students volunteer hours for their graduation requirement.

All government students seeking required hours must:

  • Be a Liverpool resident in 12th grade.
  • Register for a mandatory training session through the LPL online events calendar. Training sessions are held monthly on the 2nd Tuesday from October through May.

REQUIREMENTS: If you see yourself as described above, please submit a Volunteer Application and register for a training session on our calendar.

 

Summer Teen Volunteers

Liverpool Public Library seeks teen program assistance during the summer months. We are flexible to work with your schedule. An orientation is held in June.
Volunteers are:

  • Able to independently follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Reliable and committed.
  • Pleased to work in a team environment under the supervision of library staff.
  • Age:13 years and over.

REQUIREMENTS:
If you see yourself as described above, please submit a Volunteer Application and register for the Summer Teen Volunteer Orientation in June on our calendar. 

 

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Book Sorter
Volunteers work in groups at the library to assist with the sorting of donated books at various times throughout the year.

Computer Tutor
Volunteers work at the library with individual patrons helping them learn basic computer skills, Internet, and email. After training, volunteering can be done based on your schedule and needs of patrons.

Community Engager
Volunteers assist library staff at community events/fairs in the Liverpool, Salina, Clay area. Duties may include helping library staff man a table, pass out literature, and interact with community members. Volunteer hours would depend on scheduled events and volunteer availability.

Garden Beautifier
Volunteers help maintain and weed the library gardens and containers. After training, volunteering can be done on a flexible schedule.

Homework Helper
Volunteers help elementary students with basic homework in all subjects. Volunteering will be at Liverpool Public Library and occurs afterschool, evenings, and/or weekends.

Program Assistant
Volunteers assist library staff with various library in-house programs. Volunteer hours would depend on volunteer interest and availability.

Used Book Sale Down Under
Volunteers help prepare for and work the book sale in September. This is a weekend event with several days of preparation. Volunteer hours would depend on volunteer availability and shifts available.
