Liverpool Public Library is thrilled to introduce our first Expert-in-Residence, Brice Nordquist.

A Syracuse University Associate professor, Brice is the founding director of SU's Engaged Humanities Network (EHN) and cofounder of the EHN's Environmental Storytelling of CNY (ESCNY), a series of interconnected workshops, performances, presentations, and programs designed to demonstrate how environmental issues are intertwined with social, economic, and cultural issues and promote the use of storytelling to help us pursue environmental justice.

Expert-in-Residence Meet & Greet
Saturday, April 11 • 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. • Lobby
Join us to meet Brice, talk about environmental issues, learn how ESCNY is working to promote environmental justice, and find out how you can get involved through upcoming programs and opportunities.

 

Storytelling Workshop (Youth)*
Friday, April 17 • 3 p.m. • Sargent
Presented by: Expert-in-Residence Brice Nordquist and Write Out. Celebrate both National Poetry Month and Earth Month. With support from the Write Out team, participants will create their own environmental poetry, writing freely and on their own terms. For children in grades K-5.

 

Visual Storytelling Workshop (For Teens & Tweens)*
Friday, April 17 • 3 p.m. • Sargent
Presented by: Expert-in-Residence Brice Nordquist and Teens with Movie Cameras. This workshop will provide a hands-on opportunity to explore local environmental issues through visual storytelling, with stations on animation, video, photography, and creative sound design.

 

Community Storytelling for Environmental Action and Plant Swap*
Wednesday, April 22 • 6 p.m. • Carman
Celebrate Earth Day. Bring a plant or two for our second annual plant swap - seedlings and cuttings count. Following the swap, Brice will talk about the work the Engaged Humanities Network does -- from advancing sustainability to improving health and well-being through community storytelling. He will also lead attendees in a climate-related story development exercise. LEAF the room with a new perspective on the environment and a new plant.

 

Community Gathering and Reception
Thursday, April 30 • 7 p.m. • Carman
Presented by: Expert-in-Residence Brice Nordquist and Environmental Storytelling Central New York. Celebrate all we have learned during the Expert-In-Residence Program. Explore projects shared by workshop participants, including environmental poetry, visual storytelling, and story ideas.
