The Ukulele Workshop for Beginners typically meets in the Sargent Meeting Room on Saturday afternoons during fall, winter and spring.
Instructor Pat Doherty teaches enough of the basics of the stringed instrument so true beginners can leave each session playing a song or two or three.
Pat studied at the Eastman School of Music, Cal State University of Northridge and with teachers such as Eugene List, Brooks Smith, Jakob Gimpel and Ivan Davis, She believes that music is a basic need for all of us.
Doherty also encourages players to attend multiple sessions because they lead up to a recital in the Carman Community Room so musicians can show off to family and friends what they've learned throughout the process.
Participants must be at least 12 years old and bring their own instruments.
