The new Liverpool Public Library program guide for January and February can help you plan what events might fit your needs right now.

Programmers worked hard to fill the schedule with a combination of familiar favorites and new events to help folks of all ages in the community enjoy winter with the LPL.

The front page of the program guide includes highlights to make you happy.

The Winter Reading Challenge 2022 will welcome participants in adult, teen and children’s categories. Anybody who logs in and completes their missions throughout the two months will receive a hot cocoa mug! As a special event this year, February’s activities will include Reading Bingo.

On Saturday, Jan. 8, Harry Potter fans can join the LPL’s 20th Anniversary Celebration of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the library. The cornerstone event will be a 12:30 p.m. screening of the film in the Carman Community Room. Registration will be required at https://lpl.libcal.com/event/8550533.

A visit to the LPL on Monday, Jan. 17 can help you Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Studio @ LPL will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with LEGO bricks available for adults and children to work together to create a community for all in the spirit of unity and collaboration that King encouraged and believed in. Visitors can also share their thoughts on one of the available “I Have a Dream” paper scrolls and check out a book about the Civil Rights leader who made that speech such an important part of American history.

The 2022 Winter Chess Tournament @ LPL will feature play for ages 5 to 18 in four groups at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Carman Community Room. Every player will play a match in every round. Register at https://lpl.libcal.com/event/8518937.
