Blarney's Blog

Welcome to Blarney's Blog

Who is Blarney, you might ask?
I am Blarney Killarney from the grand clan of Killarney Leprechauns.

photo_2.jpgA wee bit of Irish magic an' grand ol' fashioned Irish luck landed me in the Liverpool Public Library. Why might a leprechaun end up so far from Ireland? 'Tis a true tale that I tell. I was out for a stroll among the heather, when I happened along a couple of tourists. Now I have a little hobby of climbing into the backpacks of tourists because you never know what kind of interesting reading materials they might have, and I love to read. 'Twas so nice and warm inside the backpack that I found meself drifting off to sleep. Now, leprechauns do not sleep often, but when they gets their mind set to sleeping they can sleep for days. One minute I was reading snug in the tourist's backpack, and next thing I know I'm tucked away inside the pages of a book on a sale shelf inside a library lobby. To awake surrounded by books! What glorious fortune! 'Twas no small bit o' magic there. I no longer have to sneak into the backpacks of tourists. I have many lifetimes of reading materials here. I looked around for the best place to build my home, and noticed several nice young lassies above me, new friends, books from floor to ceiling-- what better place to call home?!

So that 'tis the tale of how I, Blarney Killarney, came to live at the Liverpool Public Library.

I'm a wee bit shy, so you will never see me, but you can write to me or visit my house located in the Children's Room of the Library.

I be enjoyin' extra long naps the past few days. They refr'sh me and give me extra energy.

I also have been enjoyin' takin' rides on the Reading Railroad train that has arriv'd in the Children's Room. I not be a train conductor so I can't drive the train; I just hop on for rides throughout the day.

'tis sorry I be Zari, but I cannot give ye me gold. 'tis be hidden away in secret magical spots.

One of me friends asked if I be married. I still be a young'n so I not be married. Leprechauns don't start their own families until they turn 200 years old. I still be in me wanderin' stage, though I do visit family for special occasions 'n family reunions.

Me hopes some of me friends will be stoppin' in for the Drop in for Mother Goose program on May 25. 'tis for sure I be there too. Ye won't see me, but if ye shoe be untied, or ye feel a small kiss upon ye ear, then ye know it be me.

'ello ev'ryone! The weather has been so nice as o' late that I have been enjoyin' being outdoors. I hope all of ye are enjoyin' the sun too. Have ye noticed me library friend Alan workin' in the gardens? They be startin' to take shape.

Kate, thank ye fo' the lov'ly picture. Me horse is fake, so I do not ride him. Me dog is fake also, but I calls 'im Finnigan.

Kaitlyn, thank ye so much fo' the drawing. I always appr'ciate any drawings ye makes fo' me.

Cheers! Carl, Lana, 'n Carlo.

Aron, there is a fake dog in me hous'. Take a look 'n I bet ye will spot 'im right away.

'ello ev'ryone! Have ye seen the new Polaris Express that has pulled into the Childr'n's Room?  'tis locat'd above the picture books in the corner. tis a spectacular thing to behold. Som'times I be sittin' atop the engine and go fo' a fun ride. Be sure to stop by the next time you be in the libr'ry 'n take a look.
I enjoy'd seein' many of ye wee ones at the Drop in for Mother Goose program. The stories 'n songs were grand fun.

I receiv'd som' nice lett'rs from ye children. Thank ye!

Devon, I likes ice cream very much. I think all flavors of ice cream are me favorite. Except coffee flavor. I not be fond of that flavor.
