All About Taxes and e-filing!

The library is a site for the NYS Dept. of Tax and Finance's Facilitated Self-Assisted Tax Preparation.

February 16 through April 15
Mondays from 3-7pm, Tuesdays 6-8pm, and Fridays from 3-5pm

If your income is below $60,000, you can come to the library and e-file your federal and state returns for free. Someone from the NYS Department of Tax and Finance will be on hand to answer questions and help guide you through the filing process using one of their computers.

What you'll need to bring:

An email address

A copy of last year's tax return
Picture ID (driver's license)
Proof of income:
Forms W-2, 1098, 1099

Any other documents showing additional income
Form 1095-A if you received a tax credit from the Health Insurance Marketplace
Information related to any credits that you are claiming
Bank account and routing numbers (for direct deposit of your refund)
Social security card (or ITIN) for you, your spouse, and dependents.

This year, due to IRS budget cuts, the library will have a very limited number of tax forms and no Federal instruction books.

You can request forms and instruction books from the IRS at:

The forms we do have are  located in a rack in front of the security desk. We have a dedicated computer connected directly to the IRS & NYS Tax website that you can print forms for 10ยข a page.

For people who prefer to prepare their taxes themselves, this free online portal is the perfect solution. It is a fast, easy and secure way for working families and individuals who made $60,000 or less in 2014 to file their federal and state taxes online for free--and it will ensure they get their refunds quickly.

AARP Tax-Aide Will Not be Available at Liverpool Public Library Unfortunately, AARP will not be providing their tax-aide service at the library for the upcoming income tax season.  AARP has been unable to find the people needed to complete the training and the commitment in hours required.
