Library History

Wilhma’s notes are sparse for this first full year in the new building. On Sunday March 7 the library was open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and the circulation was 799. Jean Armour came to work as a volunteer in March and was hired to work part time ( twenty hours per week) by the end of June. Barbara Herrgesell returned to work six hours a week. Thus two librarians were added to the staff.

The $365,434 budget vote was held on June 9 and passed 1435 to 1243. An additional proposition of $25,000 for books was approved 1405 to 1236. Bruce Johnson was reelected to another five year term as a Trustee.

In September the library celebrated its first year anniversary in the new building. Wilhma reported that Joe Grady joined the staff as a “security watcher ” on October 1st . She also noted that parking in the downstairs area was a problem again. Rick Fensterer joined the staff as a page on November 9th.

The library held a Bake Fest on December 12 and one hundred and twenty five people attended the event.

A comparison of statistics from 1966 and 1976 shows that circulation more than tripled, going from 67, 830 to 232, 836 in ten years.
