GE Heavy Military video now available

ep5b.jpgGeneral Electric developed many of the state-of-the-art sensor and detection technologies which played a key role in the defense of the United States and North America during the Cold War. A new video, Liverpool Legends: GE Heavy Military is a companion to Liverpool Legends: Electronics Park, which was released in 2006.

This 58 minute documentary continues the story of General Electric's Syracuse operations from the 1940s through the 1990s,  and  highlights the shift in emphasis from the production of consumer electronics to the development and manufacture of aerospace and defense systems.

The DVD, narrated by Steve Auyer, provides glimpses of Cold War life in the Liverpool area and describes the leadership and corporate culture of GE's  Heavy Military Syracuse operations.  The story is told by some of those who designed, installed and maintained these ground-breaking systems.  Their secret, unsung work helped to make our community and the world at large a safer place during those years.

Spin-off businesses including Genigraphics™ and Geniponics™ are also discussed. The DVD also includes bonus material including advertisements and information on may of the products and systems developed by GE during this period.

This video was made possible with funds from NYSOPRHP (New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation) secured by Senator John DeFrancisco's Heritage Grant Program, administered by the Cultural Resources Council.

Liverpool Legends: GE Heavy Military is available for loan from Liverpool Public Library.  Copies are also available for purchase at the library or from Moore Multimedia.  Orders may be placed at www.electronicspark.org
