Welcome to Liverpool Public Library

Computers at the Library

Liverpool Public Library has offered public access computers since 1981.  We started with an Apple II+ computer in our children's room.  Today, we offer the following computer resources to our users:

Computers in the Adult Area

11 Dell PC Internet browser computers

Nine of these computers are reserved for 30 minute time blocks.  The other two are reserved for short 15 minute appointments.  The internet browser computers are equipped with USB ports to allow patrons to save documents to USB flash drives.  Software available includes Microsoft Word 2007, Excel 2007, Powerpoint 2007, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox web browsers.  WordPad and Word are available for to take notes or to copy and paste content from websites.

2 Dell PC "Workstation Lite", 1 Apple iMac "LITE" computers

In addtion to the capabilities of the Internet browser computers listed above, these computers have iTunes and have the ability to read CDs and DVDs. The Apple iMac has the ability to burn CD/DVD media, and has a ScanSnap attached for quick document scanning. You can reserve them for 60 minutes.

4 Dell PC Quiet Zone Workstation Computers

Four Dell PC Internet computers are available for 90 minute appointments. These computers have the same capabilities as the "Workstation Lite" computers described above, but can be reserved for a longer period. Because these computers are in the Quiet Zone at the back of the library, patrons are not permitted to work together on these computers.

A Dell PC with flat-bed scanner attached is available for 90 minute appointments. This computer has the same software as the Quiet Zone workstations, plus photo scanning and processing software.

Two Apple iMac Internet computers are available for 90 minute appointments. These computers feature  software for word processing, photo scanning, digital imaging, CD/DVD burning, page layout, and more.

Since the workstation computers are often busy,  it's best to reserve ahead of time. Not all computers have the same hardware and software setup.

The AfterSchool Edge computer is designed for children ages 6 - 12. It contains educational software, games, and activities that appeal to elementary school students. It can be used by persons of any age. It does not have internet access. Ask for a pass at the Information Desk in the Adult Area.

Five Apple Mac laptop computers with Internet capabilities are available for 60 minute appointments. These computers have the same software as the Apple iMac Lite (see above). Internet browsers include Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome. Websites with fun kids games are bookmarked on the desktop. To reserve one of these, use the PC Reservation station in the library, selecting "Mac Laptop In-house" and take the PC Reservation slip to the Circulation Desk. You must leave a valid New York State Drivers License or NYS-issued non-Drivers ID at the Circulation Desk when using one of these laptops.

Tutoring and Testing Workstation

A Dell PC is available for tutoring and testing. We offer volunteer tutors  to help you master the basics.  Please call 457-0310 ext. 150 to make an appointment with a tutor for one-on-one instruction.  This workstation is also available for patrons who need to take computer administered tests for coursework delivered by distance learning.  Reservations can be up to 4 hours long for testing purposes.

Printing and Scanning

All of the computers in the adult area have the ability to print in black and white or color. Printing costs are $.10 per page for black and white and $.50 per page for color, payable with either coin, or paper currency ($1, $5, $10) when the page is printed. Pages waiting to be printed are stored on a print release station and unpaid or abandoned print jobs are automatically deleted after six hours.

We have several options for scanning photos and documents. Click here for more details.

You can reserve computer time in person or over the telephone by calling 457-0310. Walk on reservations can also be made at the PC reservation station at the library.  When you call, please let us know what it is that you need to do so we can assign you the computer or workstation with the approriate capability.

Computers in the Children's Room

Children must be under the age of 12 to use the computers in the Children's Room.
Older children must use the computers in the Adult Area. Laptops (see above) with bookmarked kid's online games are available and may be used by older children in the Children's Room, if a responsible adult is able to check it out from the circulation desk with a valid New York State Drivers License or NYS-issued non-Drivers ID.

We have three AWE Early Literacy computers featuring educational and gaming software for preschoolers and early elementary students. These PCs are connected to Color printers.

Three additional computers loaded with educational and gaming software for kids are also available on a first come, first served basis. These are also connected to the Internet and to a black and white laser printer.

An iPad loaded with child-oriented apps is available for use in the Children's Room by children under the age of 12.

A separate computer that can be used by a parent/care-giver over 21 accompanying a child in the children's room is also available. This computer may be used by either the parent/care-giver, or the child (or the care-giver's client/charge).

Printing from the Childrens Computers is free, as long as it is not excessive.

Session Time

Children may sign up at the children's room information desk for 30 minutes.
